Senior Management
Peter Smail is president and chief executive officer of Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments company. Fidelity is one of the world's largest providers of investment management, retirement planning, brokerage, and human resources and benefits outsourcing services for individuals and institutions. Pyramis, with approximately $157.1 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2008, focuses on investment products and solutions for institutional customers. Mr. Smail also is a member of Fidelity's Management Committee.
Mr. Smail joined Fidelity in 1987 as vice president of operations for Fidelity Institutional Retirement Services Company (FIRSCo). In 1989, he was named senior vice president of operations and client services. He became senior vice president of marketing in 1990 and, in 1993, he became senior vice president of sales and marketing. In 1996, he became president of FIRSCo, responsible for the company's 401(k) business. In July 2000, Mr. Smail was named president of Fidelity Employer Services Company (FESCo). He was responsible for all of Fidelity's corporate outsourcing businesses. These businesses included 401(k), 403(b) and 457 institutional defined contribution retirement plans; defined benefit plan administration; health & welfare administration; human resource administration/payroll; and actuarial and consulting, as well as Fidelity Management Trust Company (FMTC). He assumed his current position in May 2005.
Before joining Fidelity, Mr. Smail was a vice president of pension trust with BayBanks, Inc., in Burlington, Massachusetts. Prior to working at BayBanks, he was a vice president in the marketing and sales division at The New England.
Mr. Smail received a bachelor of science degree in business management from Northeastern University.
He is a member of the board of directors of the Profi t Sharing Council of America (PSCA), a member of the board of directors of the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI), and a member of the board of visitors for the Northeastern University School of Business. He also serves on the boards of directors of FMTC and Fidelity Investments Life Insurance (FILI).
Young Chin is chief investment officer of Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments company. Fidelity is one of the world's largest providers of investment management, retirement planning, brokerage, and human resources and benefits outsourcing services for individuals and institutions. Pyramis, with approximately $157.1 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2008, focuses on investment products and solutions for institutional customers. Mr. Chin joined Pyramis in 2006 and oversees the firm's portfolio management, research, and trading functions.
Mr. Chin, a 28-year veteran of the investment management business, previously served as president and chief executive officer, Gartmore Global Investments, and co-global chief investment officerequities, Gartmore Group, in Conshohocken, PA. In these dual roles, he oversaw investment units in the U.S., the U.K, and Japan with assets of more than $80 billion.
Prior to joining Gartmore, Mr. Chin was managing director, head of equity management, and director of equity management research for Brown Brothers Harriman in New York from 1999 to 2001. Previously, he served in a number of roles during the formation and building of PNC Financial's asset management business, including serving on the management committee of BlackRock. Mr. Chin began his investment career at Harris Bank in Chicago in 1978. Over a period of 14 years at Harris, including eight years serving as the director of a quantitative investment consulting service, he worked with more than 400 investment organizations that included investment advisors, pension plans, endowments, and foundations.
Mr. Chin received a bachelor of arts degree in economics in 1978 and a master's degree in business administration in finance in 1982, both from the University of Chicago.
Patrick Mc Nelis is executive vice president, Global Distribution and Client Service, at Pyramis Global Advisors, a unit of Fidelity Investments. In this role, he leads Pyramis sales activities globally, manages the Client Services and Consultant Relations groups and related support, and has responsibility for Channel Services which coordinates distribution of Pyramis products with business partners across Fidelity.
Patrick has more than 23 years experience in the institutional investment business. Most recently, he was executive director and head of Institutional Advisory Services at Principal Global Investors, one of that company’s eight executive directors, and a member of its operating committee. Prior to his tenure at Principal, he was managing director and head of Institutional Advisory Services-Americas at Citigroup Asset Management. In addition, he served in senior marketing and consultant relations roles at TimesSquare Capital Management, T.Rowe Price Associates, Inc., and NationsBank Investment Management.
Patrick graduated from New York University (NYU) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics/Management in 1983 and from NYU’s Stern Graduate School of Business Administration in 1986 with a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.
James Carroll is senior vice president responsible for institutional sales and consultant relations at Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments Company. Fidelity is one of the world's largest providers of investment management, retirement planning, brokerage, and human resources and benefits outsourcing services for individuals and institutions. Pyramis, with approximately $157.1 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2008, focuses on investment products and solutions for institutional customers.
Mr. Carroll is responsible for managing the relationship management and client service teams and leading the trust services operations. He originally joined Fidelity in 1987 and held a variety of management positions in the defined contribution and defined benefit areas. He left Fidelity to work as an institutional portfolio manager at J.P. Morgan Investment Management, and rejoined Fidelity in 1999 to head the client service effort.
Mr. Carroll earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Providence College in 1986.
Michael Howard is chief financial officer of Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments Company. Fidelity is one of the world's largest providers of investment management, retirement planning, brokerage, and human resources and benefits outsourcing services for individuals and institutions. Pyramis, with approximately $157.1 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2008, focuses on investment products and solutions for institutional customers.
Mr. Howard joined Fidelity in 1996 as a senior consultant in Fidelity's internal consulting group. In 1998, he became vice president, responsible for analysis of investment product distribution and other corporate initiatives. In 1999, Mr. Howard joined Fidelity Investments Institutional Retirement Group (FIIRG) as vice president of finance. From 1999 to 2005, he served in various senior level finance roles in the areas of management and regulatory reporting, business planning, acquisitions and strategic alliances, and investments in technology and new product development. Before joining Fidelity, Mr. Howard was a manager in Deloitte Consulting in Boston, Massachusetts, providing management consulting services to global corporations in a variety of industries.
Mr. Howard received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master's degree in business administration in finance from the University of Chicago.
